Silver Spring to D.C.

Born and raised in Silver Spring, MD, I graduated from Spelman College with a bachelor's degree in French and received my master's in public communication from American University. I've been a proud Washington, D.C. resident for almost 20 years. To pay the bills I've worked as a bartender, cocktail waitress, nonprofit worker, business owner, freelance writer, and government employee — sometimes all at once.

Published & Awarded

I've been writing stories for as long as I can remember. I minored in Writing at Spelman College and began taking writing classes at the Bethesda Writer's Center in 2004. Since then, I've worked hard to improve my craft and be in community with fellow writers. My short stories have been published in numerous publications. I'm an inaugural member of Kimbilio, a Fellowship for writers from the African Diaspora.

From Up Sh*t Creek to the Lincoln

I began my storytelling journey in 2018 after being selected to perform in Story District's 'Up Sh*t Creek' show at DC Improv. The story was then selected for Story District's Top Shelf, and I performed at the Lincoln Theatre in January 2019. Since then, I've told stories with Story District, Better Said Than Done, Porchfest DC, Story Extreme, and more. My one-woman show, I'm Just Doing My Job, premiered at the Capital Fringe Festival in July 2022, to four sold out shows and received a 4-star review from DC Theater Arts.

"A Black woman telling truths and sharing stories — some real or invented — but always filled with vulnerability, humor, and joy."
